Representative Angie Craig Leads Select Committee Roundtable Discussion on Building Economic Opportunity in Rural America
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig led a roundtable discussion focused on creating economic growth in rural America. As a Member of the House Committee on Economic Disparity & Fairness in Growth tasked with representing the concerns of family farmers and rural communities, Craig hosted a number of subject matter experts to examine innovative solutions to help rural residents, communities and businesses achieve greater economic mobility.
At the roundtable, Craig invited Dr. Carrie Henning-Smith, a University of Minnesota Assistant Professor, Deputy Director of the University's Rural Health Program and member of Craig's Rural Health Advisory Council, to offer expert testimony on how to improve health outcomes in rural America.

"Of course, there are external factors that have contributed to the challenges facing rural America. But equally as important is the fact that the federal government has not been focused on addressing disparities in rural communities," said Craig in her opening remarks. "It's clear to me that we can and must do more to promote economic growth in rural communities. Because if we do not, the small towns and communities that make this country such a special place to call home could be left behind."
