U.S. Rep. Angie Craig Pushes to Ban Members of Congress from Using Taxpayer Dollars to Fly First Class
Currently, there is no legislation preventing elected officials from using taxpayer funds to purchase expensive upgrades while flying on official business
WASHINGTON, DC – This week, U.S. Representative Angie Craig reintroduced her legislation banning Members of Congress from flying first-class on taxpayer-funded travel.
Rep. Craig’s bill, the No Tax Dollars for First-Class Flights Act, would prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars for the purchase of anything other than coach-class airline tickets for Members flying to and from Washington.
“It’s completely unacceptable to me that any elected official would use taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars to buy a first-class seat,” said Rep. Craig. “I am proud to introduce this long-overdue legislation to cut down on Washington waste and ensure that elected officials are working to serve their communities – not themselves.”
Since she was elected, Rep. Craig has worked to conserve taxpayer funds and ensure that Members of Congress are unable to abuse their office for personal or professional gain.
Most recently, Rep. Craig has spearheaded the effort to ban stock trading for sitting Members of Congress and reintroduced legislation to impose a lifetime ban on Members from becoming registered lobbyists after their time in office.
