U.S. Rep. Angie Craig Introduces Bill to Ban Members of Congress from Registering As Lobbyists

April 7, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig introduced legislation that would ban Members of Congress from becoming registered lobbyists after leaving office.

The Closing the Congressional Revolving Door Act would also ensure that former Members do not retain access to the traditional benefits and services available to current Members, like access to the Members’ Dining Room or House Floor privileges.

“If we’re going to get serious about rooting out corruption in Washington, we need to ensure that former Members of Congress cannot use their access to lobby sitting representatives,” said Rep. Craig. “My legislation will close the revolving door between Congress and K Street lobbyists and help ensure our elected leaders are fully focused on serving their constituents.”

Since she was first elected to Congress, Rep. Craig has been a leader in the bipartisan push to ban Members of Congress from owning or trading stocks. Rep. Craig’s HUMBLE Act is one of the most wide-ranging ethics reform proposals in Congress.
