As South Metro Postal Issues Persist, Rep. Angie Craig Calls on USPS Leadership to Stop Raising Mail Delivery Costs for Minnesotans
USPS recently announced a proposal to raise stamp prices for the fourth time in 18 months
NEW PRAGUE, MN – Today, as South Metro postal issues continue, U.S. Representative Angie Craig mailed a letter to USPS leadership, urging them to stop raising prices for Minnesotans and take immediate action on the many challenges facing postal carriers and Minnesotans.
Rep. Craig requested a meeting with Postmaster General Louis DeJoy about poor mail service 113 days ago, on January 3rd, but he has still not accepted that request.
In a letter addressed to Postal Regulatory Chairman Michael Kubayanda, Postmaster DeJoy and the USPS Board of Governors, Rep. Craig called for a halt in rate increases for USPS services and highlighted the financial loss USPS has suffered under Postmaster General DeJoy’s “Delivering for America” Plan.
She mailed the letter from the post office in New Prague, whose facilities are some of the worst in the district and received recent word that they will get a new post office location.
“Service delays and security concerns raised by letter carriers need to be addressed now as the current USPS strategy and management is not working. My constituents deserve better. Paying more money for poor service is disincentivizing consumers, business owners and everyday Americans from utilizing the mail,” wrote Rep. Craig.
She continued, “I urge the Postal Regulatory Commission to pause any further rate increases and the Board to figure out how to run the organization before more damage is done to the financial viability and the long-term sustainability of the USPS.”

Earlier this year, Rep. Craig led a successful bipartisan call for an investigation into the state of USPS service statewide. Results of that investigation are expected in the coming months.
