Reps. Angie Craig & Pete Stauber Lead Minnesota House Delegation in Call for Statewide USPS Investigation
EAGAN, MN – Today, U.S. Representatives Angie Craig (MN-02) and Pete Stauber (MN-08) led the entire Minnesota House delegation in a bipartisan call for an investigation into USPS service in the Minnesota-North Dakota postal district.
Right now, the MN-ND postal district is ranked among the ten worst-performing USPS postal districts for First Class mail service performance – with Minnesotans consistently reporting days-long mail delivery delays.
The letter to USPS Inspector General Tammy Hull was signed by every member of Minnesota’s House delegation – Reps. Brad Finstad (MN-01), Angie Craig (MN-02), Dean Phillips (MN-03), Betty McCollum (MN-04), Ilhan Omar (MN-05), Tom Emmer (MN-06), Michelle Fischbach (MN-07) and Pete Stauber (MN-08).
“Over the course of the last year and a half, we have heard from thousands of constituents who are disappointed with their mail service. Some have been without mail service for days at a time, while others report consistently lost mail or egregiously slow delivery for First Class Mail. We have even had reports of local branches turning off their phone lines," wrote the members.
They continued, “The MN-ND District has ranked among the ten worst-performing districts for all of FY23 in First Class Single Piece Mail for both the Two-Day and Three-to-Five Day service standards. To that end, we respectfully request that your office initiate an audit of the MN-ND District.”
Following months of advocacy from Rep. Craig on the issue, the USPS Inspector General began an investigation of the St. Paul Processing and Distribution Center in November, which includes an evaluation of the Apple Valley and Eagan post offices and the New Brighton Carrier Annex. The results of the investigation are expected in the coming weeks.
