Following Rep. Craig Push, House Scraps Pay Raise for Members of Congress
WASHINGTON, DC – Last night, following a push led by U.S. Representative Angie Craig to block a pay raise for Congress, the House scrapped plans to increase Member pay.
Rep. Craig led a call with Reps. Chris Pappas (NH-01) and Eric Sorensen (IL-17) to congressional leaders, urging them to focus on lowering costs for working families instead of giving themselves a raise.
“I’m glad congressional leaders listened to our call – while working families in my district are struggling with inflation and trying to make ends meet, Congress should work in a bipartisan way to lower costs, not give ourselves a raise on the taxpayer’s dime,” said Rep. Craig.
Rep. Craig has been a staunch opponent of any efforts to increase Members’ salaries since being elected to Congress. She successfully led efforts to block Member pay raises in both the 116th and 117th Congresses.
