Rep. Angie Craig Fights To Block Proposed Congressional Pay Raise
Rep. Craig introduces amendment to ban pay increases for Members of Congress in FY2020
Today, U.S. Rep. Angie Craig continued her push to clean up Washington by opposing a proposed pay increase for Members of Congress.
A spending package from House Democrats expected on the floor this week would allow for a pay raise for Members of Congress in fiscal year 2020. Rep. Craig introduced an amendment that would insert language into this package that would explicitly prohibit this raise.
"I came to Washington to make government work for Minnesotans, bring down the price of healthcare and prescription drugs, and expand economic opportunity for farmers and small businesses in my district," said Rep. Craig. "With Minnesota families seeing stagnant or falling wages for far too long, taking a pay raise at taxpayer expense is just wrong. I will not support this pay increase for Members of Congress."
In addition to introducing this amendment, Rep. Craig has also cosponsored H.R.1, the For the People Act, a comprehensive government reform bill to increase transparency in campaign finance and make it easier to vote. She introduced her own resolution within this package to ban Members of Congress from serving on for-profit corporate boards, and continues to fight to make government accountable to Minnesotans, not special interests.
