U.S. Representative Angie Craig Secures $5 Million to Improve the Safety and Efficiency of I-35 and County Highway 50 Interchange
The city of Lakeville has been working to replace the interchange since 2004
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Angie Craig secured $5,040,000 in federal funding to help complete the reconstruction of the I-35 and County Highway 50 interchange in Lakeville.
Lakeville has been working to replace the interchange since 2004, and this new funding will help Dakota County develop the final design plans for the updated interchange.
Rep. Craig worked to ensure the interchange has sufficient capacity, sight distance and turn lanes to handle Lakeville’s dense traffic flow. This funding will be used to redesign the interchange and ensure this critical project is shovel ready and eligible for additional grant opportunities in the future.
“Over the past few years, the city of Lakeville has grown exponentially – and it’s critical for their transportation infrastructure to reflect that growth. It’s my job to ensure federal investments are making their way home to the Second District, and this funding will help ensure the interchange is safe and effective for motorists across Dakota County,” said Rep. Craig.
“The city of Lakeville has been working toward redesigning the I-35 and County Highway 50 interchange since 2004 – but with this funding, we are an important step closer toward ensuring this interchange is effective and safe for motorists across Dakota County,” said Lakeville Mayor Luke Hellier. “We appreciate Rep. Craig’s help in moving this critical project forward and look forward to seeing the great benefit it brings Lakeville residents.”
“Dakota County appreciates the leadership of the U.S. Rep. Angie Craig is helping secure federal funding for projects in Dakota County like the proposed Interstate 35 interchange and the Veterans Memorial Greenway,” said Dakota County Board Chair Liz Workman. “Securing these federal funds is important in ensuring a safe, efficient transportation corridor and a one-of-a-kind destination where our veterans’ sacrifices and contributions will be honored on the state’s longest memorial greenway.”
Lakeville is currently the largest city in Dakota County and the fastest growing city in Minnesota. The $5 million in funding will allow the city to reconstruct the interchange in a way that reflects that population growth – as well as improve its traffic flow and safety and facilitate continued economic development throughout the city.
