U.S. Rep. Angie Craig Joins South St. Paul Police Chief for Ride-Along

January 18, 2023

ICYMI: Last year, Rep. Craig introduced legislation requiring new Members of Congress to do a ride-along during their first year in office

SOUTH ST. PAUL, MN – Today, U.S. Rep. Angie Craig participated in a ride-along with South St. Paul Police Chief Brian Wicke to see firsthand the challenges  Minnesota law enforcement officers face on the job.

Last year, Rep. Craig introduced her Ride-Along Resolution, which would require every newly elected Member of Congress to join a member of their local law enforcement for a ride-along during their first year in office.

Rep. Craig has done ride-alongs in Burnsville and Shakopee, and with former Dakota County Sheriff Tim Leslie.

“Spending time with Chief Wicke today underscored my commitment to supporting Minnesota law enforcement and ensuring they have the resources they need on the job,” said Rep. Craig. “Every Member of Congress should participate in a ride-along with a member of their local law enforcement to better understand the challenges they face, and I’m pushing to pass my legislation to make that a reality.”

Rep. Craig is a strong supporter of increased police funding, comprehensive resources for police families and investments in small and mid-sized police departments. Last year, Rep. Craig secured $500,000 for the South St. Paul Police Department to hire 4 additional police officers to address a staffing shortage and increase their community policing efforts.
