U.S. Rep. Angie Craig Introduces Bill to Expand Security for Cabinet Secretaries
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig introduced legislation to expand security protections for Presidential Cabinet members.
Under Rep. Craig’s legislation, Cabinet members would be granted the same security allowance as Members of Congress, including $10,000 for equipment acquisition and installation and $150 per month for relevant fees.
“We’ve all seen the consequences of rising political threats in our country, and we must ensure our leaders have the tools they need to keep themselves and their families safe,” said Rep. Craig. “My bill is a common sense solution and I’ll keep pushing to ensure we're doing everything we can to deter political violence and keep communities safe.”
Permitted security equipment for Cabinet members’ personal residences would include cameras, motion sensors, video recorders, door locks and lighting.
All Cabinet Secretaries, the Director of National Intelligence and the Directors of the Environmental Protection Agency and Small Business Administration would be eligible for additional security under Rep. Craig’s bill.
