Representative Craig Pushes for Investment in Rural Broadband to Expand Access to Health Care

April 21, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, during a House Agriculture Committee hearing on broadband needs and opportunities in rural America, U.S. Representative Angie Craig highlighted the importance of building high-speed broadband infrastructure in unserved and underserved communities to improve access to telehealth services, particularly in rural areas.

Representative Craig urged her colleagues to include the Accessible, Affordable Internet for All Act in the upcoming infrastructure package which would make a bold investment of $94 billion to ensure that rural and underserved communities have affordable high-speed internet access.

"Addressing the issue of rural broadband deployment, expansion and funding is one of my top priorities in Congress," said Representative Craig. "As a Member of Whip Clyburn's Rural Broadband Task Force, I am strongly pushing for us to include a version of the Accessible, Affordable Internet for All Act in our upcoming infrastructure package."

As a leader on expanding broadband access, Representative Craig has introduced the Broadband MAPS Act which has been proactively implemented by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) establishing an intra-agency task force dedicated to making long-overdue improvements to the agency's broadband data and mapping tools.
