Representative Angie Craig Presses for Solutions on Minnesota National Guard Payment Delays

September 13, 2022

Due to a computer glitch, hundreds of Minnesota National Guard service members haven’t received their federal bonus pay

BURNSVILLE, MN – Last week, U.S. Representative Angie Craig wrote to the National Guard Bureau, raising her concerns about the ongoing delay in federal bonus payments to Minnesota National Guard service members in her district and throughout the state of Minnesota. Since October 2020, the Minnesota National Guard has experienced delays in processing federal bonus payments. State officials have estimated that hundreds of Minnesota service members are still waiting for their federal bonus checks.

"I have heard from service members and state officials that this delay in payment potentially impacts hundreds of service members within the Minnesota National Guard. These service members have answered the call to serve our communities, state and nation," wrote Representative Craig. "It is critical that we honor our commitment to these Soldiers and Airmen by ensuring that they receive the compensation that they were promised."

In her letter, Representative Craig requested Brigadier General April Vogel urgently address the issue and provide a timeline for an expected resolution.

Washington, D.C. 20301-1636

Dear Brigadier General Vogel:

I write to you today to raise concerns about the ongoing delay in federal bonus payments to Minnesota National Guard service members in my district and throughout the state of Minnesota.

I have heard from service members and state officials that this delay in payment potentially impacts hundreds of service members within the Minnesota National Guard. These service members have answered the call to serve our communities, state and nation. It is critical that we honor our commitment to these Soldiers and Airmen by ensuring that they receive the compensation that they were promised.

I understand that the Minnesota National Guard has been experiencing delays in processing these payments since October 2020 due to software issues.

I respectfully request that the National Guard Bureau address this issue and provide a timeline for an expected resolution. Please direct your response or any requests for additional information to my appropriate staff.
