Representative Angie Craig Introduces Resolution Honoring the 100th Anniversary of Waterskiing

WASHINGTON, DC —This week, U.S. Representative Angie Craig introduced a bicameral resolution to honor the 100^th anniversary of waterskiing, which was invented on Lake Pepin on July 2, 1922. The resolution, which was also introduced in the Senate by Senator Amy Klobuchar, encourages the United States Postal Service to design, print and distribute a new stamp honoring the upcoming anniversary – as well as Lake City's contribution to water sports.

"Nearly 100 years ago, Ralph and Ben Samuelson invented the sport of waterskiing – creating a favorite pastime for countless Minnesotans in the years since," said Representative Craig. "Today, I am joining Mayor Mark Nichols and other proud residents of Lake City in calling on the United States Postal Service to honor the Samuelson brothers for their ingenious discovery – and to celebrate the generations of water skiers that have followed in their wake."

Earlier this year, Lake City Mayor Mark Nichols and several Lake City residents submitted a proposal to the Postal Service's Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee, arguing in favor of a new stamp honoring the 100^th anniversary of waterskiing, which was invented on Lake Pepin on July 2, 1922. The Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee is a small advisory group appointed by the Postmaster General to select subjects for recommendation as future stamp issues.
