Representative Angie Craig Introduces Resolution to Ban Members of Congress from Serving on Corporate Boards

March 1, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig introduced a resolution to ban Members of Congress from serving on the boards of for-profit entities.

"The fact that Members of Congress can serve on the boards of corporations is unconscionable. We must ensure that Congressional representatives are focused on serving the American people and not special interests," said Representative Craig. "That's why I've introduced a resolution to ban Members of Congress from serving on corporate boards or any other for-profit entity. I hope that, with the passage of the For the People Act and my resolution, we can begin to reform Washington, as well as restore Americans' faith in government and strengthen our democracy for years to come."

Representative Craig is a cosponsor of the For the People Act, which would enact comprehensive electoral reforms to protect voting rights, ensure the integrity of our elections, hold elected officials accountable and end the era of big, dark, special interest money in our politics. Her resolution takes an additional step to help ensure that Members of Congress promote the best interests of their constituents. You can read the full text of the resolution

In addition, in January, Representative Craig reintroduced the HUMBLE Act, which would

impose a full ban on individual stock ownership for Congress as well as:

  • Impose a lifetime ban on lobbying for Members of Congress.
  • Prohibit the use of funds provided for the official travel expenses of Members for first-class airline accommodations.
  • Eliminate allowing former Members from access to the Hall of the House, athletic facilities, Member's Dining Room, parking spaces, materials from the House document room and collections in the House Legislative Resource Center.
