Representative Angie Craig Helps Pass House Bills to Protect and Strengthen Nationwide Access to Abortion

July 15, 2022

The bills ensure women’s access to abortion in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling to overturn 50 years of precedent provided by the Roe vs. Wade decision

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig voted for two critical pieces of reproductive rights legislation to enshrine access to reproductive health care into law for everyone across America, regardless of where they live. The Women's Health Protection Act and the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act – both of which Craig cosponsored – passed the House earlier today. In the weeks following the reversal of Roe v. Wade, many states have rushed to enact abortion bans – including nine states that have already successfully done so. By passing these bills, pro-choice House members have made clear their commitment to protecting a woman's right to make her own decisions about her life, health care, family and future.

Earlier today, Craig spoke on the House floor in support of the Women's Health Protection Act. Video of those remarks are available here.

"The right to an abortion should be protected by law," said Representative Craig. "No government and no politician belongs in this conversation at all. This is a freedom and privacy issue that should be only between a woman, her family, her doctor and her faith."

The Women's Health Protection Act would restore 50 years of Roe precedent. The Ensuring Access to Abortion Act would ensure that a woman can cross state lines without being criminalized for accessing abortion. To view the full text of the bills, click here and here.
