Representative Angie Craig, Colleagues Announce National Public Works Week

May 16, 2022

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Craig (D-MN), Dina Titus (D-NV) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) introduced a bipartisan resolution to recognize this week as National Public Works Week. Craig and her colleagues authored this resolution to recognize and celebrate the vital work of our nation's public works professionals who manage water, sewer and public transportation systems and maintain public buildings and grounds.

"Despite the difficulties of the past several years, public works professionals showed up to keep our roads safe, our water clean and buildings maintained every single day," said Representative Craig. "I'm thrilled to recognize this week as National Public Works Week and have the opportunity to express our gratitude to the dedicated engineers, managers and workers who keep our communities running smoothly."

"The nation's economy, health, and future are put in harm's way when we don't prioritize infrastructure," said Representative Titus. "We must be active in advancing a bipartisan, 21st-Century agenda that will prepare our communities for new growth and keep our workforce strong. Thank you to Representatives Craig and Fitzpatrick for joining me to celebrate our nation's public works professionals during National Public Works Week."

"We must recognize those that make our lives possible in terms of keeping utilities and infrastructure operating," said Representative Fitzpatrick. "All too often, these hardworking women and men are overlooked, and I am proud to recognize their contributions through this resolution."

"National Public Works Week is dedicated to the public works professionals who keep our water running freely and reliably, ensure our safe commutes, and routinely demonstrate they are ready and resilient in being first on the scene no matter when a disaster strikes," said Stan Brown, President of the American Public Works Association. "This is a celebration of their work and a reminder to citizens everywhere a public works professional has their backs."
