Representative Angie Craig Applauds Reports that Biden Administration will Permit Summer Sales of E15
Craig has led the effort in Congress to allow year-round E15 sales, which she has argued will help to lower prices at the pump, strengthen American energy independence and support family farmers
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig applauded the Biden Administration's reported plan to allow the summer sales of E15. Earlier today, reports emerged that while visiting Menlo, Iowa, President Biden would announce that his Administration plans to take emergency action allowing the summer sales of gasoline blended with 15% ethanol. E15 – or unleaded88 – is selling for anywhere from 10 to 40 cents cheaper per gallon than traditional gasoline.
For the past year, Representative Angie Craig has championed the issue of year-round availability of E15 in Congress – repeatedly calling on the Administration to take action in order to help lower prices at the pump, bolster rural economies and strengthen American energy independence. Two weeks ago, Craig led 28 of her colleagues in a bipartisan letter to the President calling for him to take this very action. Last week, she pushed Big Oil executives to commit to offering more E15 as a way to ease pressure at the pump for hardworking American families. And just yesterday, she reiterated the call for the Administration to act in a public statement. She is also the lead sponsor of the Year-Round Fuel Choice Act, which would permanently allow the summer sales of E15. Rep. Craig introduced this bipartisan legislation with the House Biofuels Caucus just weeks after the D.C. Circuit Court ruled against the biofuels industry in a case brought by oil refiners to end the year-round sales of E15.
"Since the day the D.C. Circuit Court's decision jeopardized summer sales back in July of 2021, I have been working to ensure the year-round availability of E15. E15 serves as a cheaper alternative for American consumers while helping to expand markets for family farmers, support economic growth in rural America and cut down on dangerous pollutants released into the air we breathe. It's a no-brainer," said Representative Craig. "I am glad that the Biden Administration is taking this action, which, especially as we work to lessen our dependence on foreign energy producers and hold Russia accountable for its unjustified invasion of Ukraine, is an announcement that all Americans can support."
"We sincerely thank Congresswoman Craig for her tireless efforts to ensure American drivers have year-round access to E15—the lowest-cost, lowest-carbon fuel available at the pump today. Her consistent advocacy was crucial to securing the important actions announced today by President Biden," said Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper. "Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Congresswoman Craig, President Biden, and other leaders throughout Congress and the administration, drivers in Minnesota and across the country will benefit from the lower prices and cleaner air provided by higher ethanol blends like E15."
