Representative Angie Craig Applauds Reduction of Medicare Premiums
Representative Craig has repeatedly called on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to lower health care costs for American seniors
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig applauded the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) announcement that Medicare beneficiaries will see their Part B premiums decrease in 2023. Earlier this year, Representative Craig led 30 of her colleagues in calling on CMS to revisit and reverse a significant hike in Medicare Part B premiums, which exacerbated financial hardships for millions of older Americans. Additionally, she has introduced legislation to help low-income seniors and individuals afford their Medicare prescription drug plans.
"I've repeatedly called on CMS to take decisive action to lower health care costs for American seniors. So I'm pleased that in 2023, American seniors will see their Medicare Part B premiums decrease for the first time in a decade," said Representative Craig. "Reducing these premiums will help us put money right where it belongs – back in the pockets of America's seniors."
Since assuming office, Representative Craig has worked to ensure that every American, no matter their zip code, income level or age, has access to high-quality affordable health care options. Earlier this summer, provisions of Representative Craig's Affordable Insulin Now Act were signed into law as part of the Inflation Reduction Act, capping the out-of-pocket cost of insulin for those on Medicare at $35 per month along with provisions capping seniors' out-of-pocket prescription drugs costs at $2,000 per year. She has also fought to save millions of Americans thousands of dollars annually on their health insurance premiums by urging the administration to close the ‘family glitch' and introducing legislation to lower premium costs on the individual marketplace by an estimated eight percent.
