Representative Angie Craig Announces $44 Million in Broadband Infrastructure Funding for Minnesota

December 6, 2022

Last year, Representative Craig urged the Administration to provide the funding necessary to improve high speed internet access across Minnesota

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig announced that Minnesota is set to receive $44 million in internet infrastructure funding through the Treasury Department’s Capital Projects Fund. The Capital Projects Fund was launched to allow state and tribal governments to invest in projects that will help meet their communities’ critical needs – both in the short and long-term – with a key emphasis on investments in bringing high speed internet to all communities.

Representative Craig has led efforts to ensure that Minnesota receives the funding and resources necessary to improve access to rural communities. Last December, she wrote to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, urging her to take action to ensure the effective and appropriate implementation of the Capital Projects Fund to ensure that every Minnesotan – especially those living in rural communities – has reliable access to broadband.

“My constituents rely on access to high speed internet to make a living, stay connected to family and friends, get an education and access telehealth. In today’s economy, the internet is not a luxury – it’s critical infrastructure of the 21st century,” said Representative Craig.

Last week, the Treasury Department approved $44 million in funding for Minnesota to improve broadband access to 4,811 locations across the state under the American Rescue Plan’s Capital Projects Fund. Minnesota’s award will fund two additional broadband infrastructure programs: Minnesota’s Line Extension program and the Low-Density Pilot Program – programs designed to improve broadband infrastructure in predominantly rural parts of the state that too often lack reliable access to high-speed internet.
