Rep. Craig Secures Nearly $2.3 Million in Federal Funding for Rosemount Fire Department to Hire Additional Firefighters

October 2, 2026

The Lakeville, Shakopee and Woodbury Fire Departments also received federal grants

EAGAN, MN – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig announced that her office secured $2,290,047 in federal funding for the Rosemount Fire Department.

The funding, which came through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program will be used to hire nine additional firefighters as the city continues to grow, ensuring that the department can have at least 24 firefighters on duty at all hours. Rep. Craig wrote a letter of support on behalf of the Rosemount Fire Department in June.

“I am excited to announce that the Rosemount Fire Department will receive critical federal funding to hire more firefighters and ensure the department has adequate staff as Rosemount continues to grow,” said Rep. Craig. “Every day, our firefighters run into danger to save lives, and I couldn’t be prouder to have helped secure this funding that will keep our firefighters and our communities safe.”

This week, FEMA also announced it has awarded grants to three additional fire departments in MN-02. The Lakeville Fire Department will receive $1,315,103 through the SAFER grant program. The Shakopee Fire Department will receive $81,818 and the Woodbury Fire Department will receive $55,680 through the Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) grant program.
