Rep. Craig on MSNBC: Week One Executive Orders Did Nothing to Lower Costs for Americans
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Angie Craig joined MSNBC’s Alex Witt this weekend to voice her concerns with the Administration’s recent executive orders and reaffirm her commitment to working across the aisle to lower costs, pass a bipartisan farm bill this Congress and secure the Southern Border.
When asked about the impact of last week’s flurry of executive orders, including the new Administration’s efforts to roll back Medicare prescription drug negotiations, Rep. Craig said, “Many of the executive actions this week and much of the rhetoric from the Administration – to start, at least – had nothing to do with lowering costs for Americans. I am completely focused on this, and I think this is where Democrats have to be focused.”
As Ranking Member of the House Committee on Agriculture, Rep. Craig also redoubled her commitment to passing a strong, bipartisan farm bill this Congress. “It’s the only way it gets done – on a bipartisan basis,” Rep. Craig said. “I’m looking forward to working with [Chairman GT Thompson], but it’s going to be tough.”
“If [Republicans] come for the nutrition title as part of the budget reconciliation process, not only is that going to take away much-needed funding from hungry kids and seniors and veterans, but let’s not forget that program supports the crops that producers grow,” Rep. Craig continued. “We need to understand that our food supply chain is completely tied to the farm bill.”
Finally, Rep. Craig highlighted the importance of securing the Southern Border and deporting undocumented migrants with criminal records, while also creating legal pathways for migrant workers who support America’s agricultural economy. “We’ve got to secure our borders,” Rep Craig said. “But we have to reform this broken immigration system that we’re all living under today.”
