Rep. Angie Craig’s Statement on HHS Rule Allowing Foster Care and Adoption Discrimination
Today, U.S. Rep. Angie Craig released the following statement in response to the Department of Health and Human Services' decision to revoke nondiscrimination protections in foster care based on sex, disability, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
"I urge this Administration to stand with loving families and prioritize the well-being of children across this country," said Rep. Craig. "All that should matter is that children are placed in safe, loving homes, and it is unacceptable that adoptive parents and foster parents are now legally allowed to be discriminated against just because of who they love or how they identify. This decision cannot stand."
Rep. Craig has four sons with her wife Cheryl and faced adoption challenges when adopting her own son, Josh. She is a lead cosponsor of the bipartisan Every Child Deserves a Family Act, a bill that would prohibit discrimination against LGBTQ adoptive parents and foster youth in the foster care system.
