Rep. Angie Craig Urges Speaker Johnson to Negotiate a Bipartisan Border Bill

January 25, 2024

Johnson has said he will not put any border legislation on the House Floor other than H.R. 2, a GOP-only bill

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Angie Craig is calling on House Speaker Mike Johnson to negotiate a bipartisan border bill.

Rep. Craig joined 58 Members of Congress in urging Speaker Johnson to negotiate in good faith to humanely secure the southern border and reform our immigration system.

In addition to this call for action, Rep. Craig has supported proposals to increase funding for Customs and Border Patrol, expedite processing of asylum cases, hire more immigration judges and stem the flow of illicit fentanyl into the United States.

“We have repeatedly called for bipartisan solutions to meaningfully address the challenges presented by increased migration,” wrote the Members.

“It is unfortunate that you and members of your Conference have described the situation as a winning political issue, and suggested that you would wait to act on the border until a Republican president is elected. This is unacceptable. We respectfully urge you to put the American people and our nation’s security ahead of petty partisan politics,” the Members continued.
