Rep. Angie Craig Slams USPS as Service Levels Decline in FY24 Q2

California is the only state where USPS is meeting their delivery targets

USPS OIG is set to publish an audit of Minnesota mail service in June

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig slammed U.S. Postal Service leadership after they reported a decline in service levels during Q2 of FY2024.

According to the USPS Office of the Inspector General, the service standard for first-class two-day service in the Minnesota-North Dakota region has gotten worse – with only 84.1% of mail arriving on time, nearly 10 points below USPS’ target of 93%.

In FY24 Q1, the region ranked 40th in the nation for two-day service. Now it ranks 42nd.

“It’s almost hard to believe that USPS service could get any worse, and it’s clear to me that USPS needs to shake up their leadership. The current strategy is not working for Minnesotans,” said Rep. Craig. “I am eagerly awaiting the results of USPS’ statewide audit of Minnesota’s mail service in June, and I will not stop working to hold leadership accountable.”

Rep. Craig has been sounding the alarm on unacceptable USPS performance in the South Metro for over a year and a half.

Last January, she launched an online USPS survey to gauge the extent of postal issues in the Second District and received more than 3,300 responses from Minnesotans. Rep. Craig delivered those responses directly to Postmaster General DeJoy’s office in Washington DC.

Earlier this year, following Rep. Craig’s bipartisan call for a statewide investigation, the USPS OIG announced an investigation of the entire MN-ND postal district. Results of that investigation are expected later this year.
