Rep. Angie Craig Leads Bipartisan Call to Speaker Johnson for Congressional Stock Trading Ban
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig lead a bipartisan coalition of 26 Members pushing Speaker Johnson and House leaders to bring a congressional stock trading ban to a vote.
Rep. Craig has been a leader on this issue since she was first elected to Congress. Her HUMBLE Act is one of the most expansive stock trading ban proposals in Congress.
In their letter to Speaker Johnson, the bipartisan coalition laid out seven “first principles” they agreed to – from specific prohibitions to enforcement mechanisms.
“There is no shortage of bipartisan legislation ready to be voted on that model this established set of shared principles. We know that the overwhelming majority of Americans believe that Members of Congress should not be allowed to trade stock while in office. We respectfully urge you to ensure elected officials are held to the highest standard,” the bipartisan group of Members wrote.
Reps. Andy Kim (NJ-03), Joe Neguse (CO-02), Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08), Katie Porter (CA-47) and Abigail Spanberger (VA-07) led the letter with Rep. Craig. Reps. Emanuel Cleaver (MO-05), Joe Courtney (CT-02), Chris Deluzio (PA-17), Jimmy Gomez (CA-34), Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC-AL), Daniel Kildee (MI-08), Derek Kilmer (WA-06), Barbara Lee (CA-12), Mike Levin (CA-49), Seth Magaziner (RI-02), Betty McCollum (MN-04), Jerrold Nadler (NY-12), Wiley Nickel (NC-13), Dean Phillips (MN-03), Matthew Rosendale (MT-02), Andrea Salinas (OR-06), Elissa Slotkin (MI-07), Rashida Tlaib (MI-12), Paul Tonko (NY-20) and Susan Wild (PA-07) signed onto Rep.
