Rep. Angie Craig Leads 49 Members in Push to Strike Harmful Anti-LGBTQI+ Provisions from Labor-HHS Appropriations Bill
Rep. Craig’s amendment has the most cosponsors of any Labor-HHS amendment
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig filed an amendment to strike harmful anti-LGBTQI+ language from critical government funding legislation.
Rep. Craig’s amendment to the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2024 has 49 cosponsors.
The amendment would block Republican-led provisions to allow discrimination against LGBTQI+ people, ban the display of Pride flags at government facilities, block gender affirming care, undermine Title IX protections for women and LGBTQI+ people and more.
“MAGA Republicans are pushing a dangerous agenda that is not only anti-LGBTQI+, it’s anti-American,” said Rep. Craig. “As the first out-lesbian mother elected to Congress, I’m proud to lead this charge and stand up for LGBTQI+ Americans and I strongly urge my Republican colleagues to reject this culture-war extremism and get back to the work of the American people.”
Rep. Craig’s amendment would strike the following sections:
- Sec. 243 - Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Executive Order rider
- Sec. 247 - ACA Section 1557 Rule rider
- Sec. 311 - Title IX Rules rider
- Sec. 312 - All Comers Rider
- Sec. 317 – Trans and Intersex Sports Ban
- Sec. 534 – Gender Affirming Care Ban
- Sec. 537 - License to Discriminate Provision
- Sec. 540 – Pride flag ban
Rep. Craig’s amendment is supported by 49 Members of Congress and more than 10 leading national civil rights organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign, the Congressional Equality Caucus and the American Civil Liberties Union.
