Rep. Angie Craig Introduces Bill to Up Penalties for Fraud in Federal Programs

May 31, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig introduced legislation to crack down even further on fraud in federal programs.

Rep. Craig’s Stop Fraud in Federal Programs Act would increase the penalty for Federal Programs Bribery to 20 years in prison and require sponsors to have 3rd party auditors. For example, this would ensure that sponsors, like Feeding Our Future, cannot self-certify that they have delivered meals, adding an extra layer of accountability.

“We need to take every opportunity to safeguard taxpayer dollars and ensure they’re helping everyday Minnesotans – that's why I’m working to crack down on fraud in federal programs,” said Rep. Craig. “I will continue working across the aisle in Congress to hold criminals accountable and ensure the responsible use of your tax dollars.”
