Rep. Angie Craig Introduces Bill to Crack Down on Corporate Price Gouging & Lower Costs

May 22, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig introduced legislation to crack down on corporate price gouging at grocery stores and help lower costs for Minnesotans.

Rep. Craig’s Task Force to Stop Price Gouging Act would create a federal task force to investigate corporate and government behavior that results in increased prices for American families and release a quarterly report with its findings.

The task force would be comprised of teams from the Department of Agriculture, the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department.

“Higher costs at the grocery store means Minnesota families are trying to stretch their dollars as far as possible – we’ve got to do everything we can to make life more affordable for them,” said Rep. Craig. “My bill will increase transparency by forcing big corporations to justify their price hikes to the public and help rein in wasteful government spending at the same time. I’ll keep looking for solutions that help my constituents.”

Last month, Rep. Craig asked constituents about their grocery store bills to help identify solutions.
