Rep. Angie Craig Helps Pass Bipartisan Funding Package, Advancing Billions in Critical Funding
Legislation includes billions for border security, mental health resources, special education programs & more
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig helped pass bipartisan government funding legislation – advancing billions in federal funding for border security, substance use prevention and recovery and special education funding.
Rep. Craig was also successful in blocking a Member pay raise from being included in this legislation. This is her third successful push to strip government funding legislation of language that would allow Members to pay themselves more.
“The road to pass this government funding legislation was long and unnecessarily political – but it finally got done. I'm pleased this bipartisan package includes funding for many of the priorities I’ve been focused on: restoring order the border, supporting comprehensive opioid prevention, treatment and recovery efforts and fully funding special education programs – and I urge the Senate to pass it quickly,” said Rep. Craig.
The legislative package includes:
- $19.6 billion for Customs and Border Protection to help with efforts to fentanyl detection efforts and hire more officers
- $2.8 billion – an increase of $20 million from last year – for the Substance Use and Mental Health Services Administration to support opioid prevention, treatment and recovery efforts across the country
- $14.2 billion for IDEA – an increase of $20 million from last year – to fund special education programs
- $285 million for Registered Apprenticeships and $65 million for strengthening Community College Training Grants
More details on this legislation can be found here. The legislative package now heads to the Senate for a vote.
