Rep. Angie Craig Fights for Local Infrastructure Investments

August 16, 2019

Rep. Craig meets with local leaders during Transportation Week

Today, U.S. Rep. Angie Craig wrapped up her district work period Transportation Week by reiterating her commitment to advocating for robust investments in local infrastructure. This week, Rep. Craig hosted a number of events to hear from local leaders and advocates about how she can work in Congress to fight for stronger, safer communities through local infrastructure projects. She has:

  • Hosted a listening session on surface transportation infrastructure with U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips, city and county elected officials, and representatives from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
  • Hosted a roundtable on water quality infrastructure with Rep. Phillips, city, county and state elected officials.
  • Participated in a farm-to-freight tour following a shipment of corn from a Rice County farm to the Ports of Savage.
  • Met with local business leaders to hear about their work to improve rail infrastructure and power local economies.
  • Held a flooding resilience roundtable in Hastings with elected officials and stakeholders.

"Investments in local infrastructure are investments in the safety of our neighbors, the health of our economies, and the strength of our communities. Our neighbors depend on safe roads, revitalized bridges, and disaster prevention projects," said Rep. Craig. "Every day in Washington, I'm working hard to make sure Congress prioritizes these projects, and I'm incredibly grateful for the hard work of every local leader I've met with this week to advocate for investments in their communities."

In Congress, Rep. Craig serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee where she is fighting for an infrastructure package that prioritizes the safety and economic opportunity of Minnesotans. Recently, she worked with local mayors in her district to introduce the Resilience Revolving Loan Fund Act of 2019, a bipartisan bill that would provide low interest loans for communities to invest in disaster prevention efforts. She continues to meet regularly with state and local leaders to hear about the need for investments in infrastructure projects - from highway resurfacing to flood prevention.
