Rep. Angie Craig Announces New Post Office in New Prague
Craig has been pushing USPS to build a new post office in New Prague since August 2022
WASHINGTON, DC – Following more than a year of advocacy, U.S. Representative Angie Craig announced the United States Postal Service’s plans for a new post office in New Prague, MN.
Since 2022, Rep. Craig and New Prague Mayor Duane Jirik have pressed USPS on the urgent need for a safer, more efficient, more accessible post office in the city.
The USPS Office of the Inspector General recently announced an investigation into all Minnesota post offices following Rep. Craig’s year-long pressure campaign. Last year, Rep. Craig heard from thousands of constituents about poor mail service in Minnesota.
“This is incredible news for the City of New Prague, and proof that the pressure we’ve put on USPS management is working,” said Rep. Craig. “I’m grateful to Mayor Jirik for his partnership on this issue, and we’ll keep pushing until there are shovels in the ground and New Prague has a safe, accessible post office.”
USPS said they would either relocate the post office to an existing building in New Prague or purchase land to build a new facility. There will be opportunity for community members to make comments, appeals or suggestions.
