ICYMI: Representative Angie Craig Helps Fund Local Law Enforcement
Craig regularly works with local law enforcement officials to ensure they have the funding and equipment needed to do their jobs safely and effectively to keep our communities safe
MINNESOTA – Since assuming office in 2019, Representative Craig has worked hand-in-hand with local sheriffs, police chiefs and public safety officers to ensure law enforcement agencies across the Second District receive the resources, support and funding necessary to keeping Minnesota's communities safe from harm.
Over the past four years, Representative Craig has worked tirelessly to deliver for Minnesota's law enforcement agencies. These efforts have included:
Pressing House Leadership to vote on commonsense, bipartisan legislation that would invest in hiring, retention, training and mental health resources for law enforcement
Securing $533,885 in funding for the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office to purchase a new Mobile Command and Communications Vehicle
Securing $170,000 for the Dakota County Sheriff's Office to purchase body cameras as part of the DOJ's Body-Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Program.
Securing more than $34,000 in federal grant dollars for Burnsville, Inver Grove Heights, and West St. Paul Police Departments to purchase necessary equipment to keep local communities safe
Leading efforts to get the Public Safety Officer Support Act signed into law, to ensure that officers can access disability benefits for post-traumatic stress disorder – and that families of officers who lost their lives to trauma-linked suicide can apply for the death benefits that they deserve
Introducing the Invest to Protect Act, which would provide funding for small and mid-sized police departments to invest in recruiting, training, equipment, mental health support and other priorities
Cosponsoring the Protect and Serve Act, which would enhance federal penalties for individuals who deliberately target law enforcement officers with violence
Urging the Department of Justice to provide additional funds to the Inver Grove Heights Police Department, West St. Paul Police Department, South St. Paul Police Department and Burnsville Police Department to hire additional police officers and address staffing shortages
