Following Police Ride Along in Cottage Grove, Rep. Angie Craig Introduces Ride Along Legislation

February 20, 2024

Rep. Craig’s resolution would require every Member of the House to participate in a law enforcement ride along each Congress

COTTAGE GROVE, MN – Today, following a ride along with Cottage Grove Police Officer Joe Pierre, U.S. Representative Angie Craig reintroduced her Ride Along Resolution.

Rep. Craig’s legislation would require every Member of the House of Representatives to participate in a ride along with a member of their local law enforcement once every Congress – every two years at a minimum.

“Law enforcement across the country puts their lives on the line every day to protect our communities. We experienced a tremendous loss this past weekend in Burnsville. Two police officers and a firefighter/paramedic made the ultimate sacrifice to keep the community safe – that's a debt we will never be able to repay. It’s our job as elected officials to understand the incredible risk law enforcement officers take every day when they show up to work. I would not be the Member of Congress I am today without the experiences I’ve had during ride alongs with Minnesota law enforcement,” said Rep. Craig. “I’m proud of this legislation and will keep pushing members of both parties to increase support for law enforcement and public safety in Congress.”

“As a police officer, I know the resources and support needed by law enforcement to best serve our community every day,” said Officer Joe Pierre. “I'm grateful for the opportunity to share that information with Representative Craig firsthand during our ride along, and for her willingness to discuss how to best meet those needs for our residents and our department.”

During her time in Congress, Rep. Craig has participated in ride alongs across the Second District – in Burnsville, Hastings, Shakopee, South St. Paul and now Cottage Grove. She also recently did a ride along with the Dakota County EMS in Eagan.
