Craig-Backed Legislation to Combat Fentanyl Crisis Builds Momentum
WASHINGTON, DC – Two of U.S. Representative Angie Craig’s bipartisan bills aimed at combating the fentanyl crisis have been endorsed by the New Democrat Coalition – a group of 97 center-left House Democrats who seek to advance common sense, fiscally responsible policies in Congress.
The two bills – the RECONNECTIONS Act and the School Access to Naloxone Act – would expand overdose prevention efforts and resources, like naloxone. Both bills have garnered support from Republicans and Democrats.
“The fight to combat the fentanyl crisis is going to take all hands on deck,” said Rep. Craig.“I’m grateful to count my fellow New Dems as partners in that fight – and I’ll keep working to make sure every Minnesotan has access to the support, tools and education they need to keep themselves and their families safe and well.”
The bipartisan RECONNECTIONS Act would help expand the CDC’s overdose prevention efforts – like bolstering prescription drug monitoring programs, promoting and evaluating community and health system interventions and conducting research on controlled substance overdoses. The bipartisan School Access to Naloxone Act would make sure naloxone is available in schools and ensure educators and school administrators are trained on how to use this life-saving drug. Bill text can be found here.
The New Democrat Coalition is a group of nearly 100 center-left House Democrats committed to breaking through partisan gridlock and delivering results for Americans. Rep. Craig has been a member of the New Democrat Coalition since being elected.
