Congresswoman Angie Craig Reiterates Support for Affordable Housing

March 11, 2020

Today, U.S. Rep. Angie Craig met with Commissioner Jennifer Ho from Minnesota's Housing Authority, where she reiterated her support for affordable housing across Minnesota's Second Congressional District.

"Research has proved that affordable housing is a cornerstone to strong economies and thriving communities and if you don't have a roof over your head, you cannot be focused on finding a job or contributing to your community," said Rep. Angie Craig. "That's why I'm working with Commissioner Ho and on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to expand access to affordable housing and make sure everyone has a safe place to live."

Rep. Craig has worked to support the housing tax credit simplifying the rules for veterans and students. She is a cosponsor of legislation to expand and improve the low-income tax credit (LIHTC) program, which could provide as many as 450,000 affordable housing units over the next 10 years. Additionally, she recently signed onto a letter in support of continued funding for USDA Rural Housing programs, including the Section 502 Direct Loan Program, which is the only federal homeownership program targeting low and very-low income rural families.
