Congresswoman Angie Craig Passes Key Water Resources Legislation Out of Committee
Today, Rep. Angie Craig, a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, passed H.R.7575, the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2020 out of Committee with overwhelming bipartisan support.
"Farmers, families and communities across my district depend on the Mississippi River for their economic livelihoods," said Rep. Angie Craig. "I am proud WRDA 2020 includes essential funding that communities and businesses rely on to export their goods, drive economic growth and effectively respond to floods."
This key legislation addresses the long-term resiliency of our water projects and will provide assistance to low-income, disadvantaged and rural communities to help them better prepare for flooding and storm damage. It includes an increase requested by Rep. Craig in funding for the Upper Mississippi River System Environmental Management Program, which has come to be recognized as the single most important effort committed to ensuring the viability and vitality of the Upper Mississippi River System's diverse and significant fish and wildlife resources since the establishment of the National Wildlife Refuges on that system in the 1920's.
H.R.7575 also supports Rep. Craig's request to prioritize the Upper Mississippi Navigation and Ecosystem Restoration Program – in part by modifying the cost-share for ongoing and future construction and major rehabilitation of capital investment projects on the inland waterways system.
