Congresswoman Angie Craig Hosts Roundtable with African American Educators Forum
U.S. Rep. Angie Craig hosted a meeting with members of the African American Educators Forum to discuss the unique challenges faced by students of color across Minnesota and opportunities for change.
Minnesota's education system faces a severe achievement gap along racial and class lines, and because of inadequate government action, this gap has continued to persist despite the meaningful work done by advocacy and groups like the African American Educators Forum. Rep. Craig is committed to finding ways to address Minnesota's education racial disparities. One of the first things she did in Congress was start leading the effort for the federal government to finally meet its funding obligation for IDEA funding with her Republican colleague, Rep. Pete Stauber.
"We know Minnesota has historic disparities when it comes to educating students of color, and it is our responsibility to look critically at the role systemic racism plays in determining outcomes in our education system," said Rep. Craig. "As the wife of an educator and the mother of four boys, I was honored to listen to such a dedicated group of advocates about these pressing issues facing black students, and I will continue to fight for improvements in racial equity for students and teachers across the state of Minnesota."
