“I’m thankful for the constituents and community health advocates that joined me for an important discussion today about reducing health insurance premiums and out of pocket health care costs,” said Rep. Angie Craig. “The number one issue I hear about from Minnesota families is the rising cost of health care. Since my first day in office, I’ve been working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle on real solutions like my federal reinsurance bill and my emergency insulin legislation as first steps, and I will not stop working until those bills become law and families see relief to the most urgent problems they are facing today. ”

Rep. Craig is fighting to make sure everyone has high-quality affordable health care in their communities. She has supported or introduced more than 60 bills to increase access and lower the cost of health care, including the cost of prescription drugs.

Among those are:

  • the State Health Care Premium Reduction Act, a federal reinsurance program which would lower health insurance premiums for folks in the individual market by up to 8%,
  • the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act, which would save Minnesotans thousands of dollars in out of pocket drug costs, and
  • the Medicare-X Choice Act of 2019, which would increase competition in the individual marketplace by establishing a public option health plan to compete with large insurance companies.
