Congresswoman Angie Craig Helps to Pass Delivering for America Act Ensuring USPS Maintains Pre-Pandemic Service Levels Through 2020

August 22, 2020

Craig: “The United States Postal Service remains one of our nation’s most vital institutions.”

Today, U.S. Rep. Angie Craig helped to pass the Delivering for America Act, which she cosponsored earlier this week. The bill would require Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to return the level of service provided by USPS to levels before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Delivering for America Act would temporarily prohibit any changes to USPS operations that deviate from the level of service offered on January 1, 2020, including prohibiting the closing of any post office or postal facility and barring any changes that would cause delays or increase the volume of undelivered mail. More information on H.R. 8015 can be found here.

"The United States Postal Service remains one of our nation's most vital institutions, and I will fight any attempt to undermine its ability to connect families and empower voters during the COVID-19 pandemic," said Rep. Craig. "Seniors, veterans and families rely on hard-working Minnesota letter carriers to deliver life-saving medications, important packages and mail-in ballots to rural areas that would otherwise go underserviced by private companies. I am a proud cosponsor of the Delivering for America Act, which would block Postmaster DeJoy's troubling attempts to undermine this cherished agency and the essential workers who keep it running."

Earlier this week, Rep. Craig visited the South St. Paul Post Office and in May she visited the Burnsville Post Office, you can watch a video from her visit here.
