Angie Craig Applauds USDA Announcement of Disaster Assistance for Minnesota Farmers & Ranchers Impacted by Drought
Following push from Representative Craig, the USDA is offering regulatory and financial assistance to impacted farmers in Minnesota
WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the availability of technical and financial assistance for Minnesota farmers and livestock producers impacted by current drought conditions. Those impacted can work with their local USDA Service Center to report losses and learn more about program options available to assist in their recovery from crop, land, infrastructure and livestock losses and damages.
"The severe drought conditions we've experienced this summer have been hard on farmers and ranchers in my district and across Minnesota," said Representative Craig. "I'm glad that the USDA is responding to the situation with emergency funding and much-needed flexibility for haying and grazing. I will continue to look for ways to support family farmers across my district and the state during this time."
This decision from the USDA follows a letter from U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith and U.S. Representatives Angie Craig, Michelle Fischbach, Jim Hagedorn, Pete Stauber, Tom Emmer and Dean Phillips to Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack urging the authorization of emergency haying and grazing on Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) enrolled lands in Minnesota.
