ABC 6 NEWS: Rep. Craig introduces legislation to establish care standards for people in ICE, CBP custody
February 3, 2026
(ABC 6 News) — On Tuesday, Rep. Angie Craig joined Rep. Raul Ruiz of California in introducing legislation to establish care standards for people in Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.
The bill is called The Humanitarian Standards for Individuals in ICE and CBP Custody Act. It would require ICE and CBP to conduct timely, in-person medical screenings and ensure basic humanitarian standards for those in custody.
The bill comes amid high tensions in Minnesota due to increased presence of federal agents in the state.
The Department of Homeland Security says it has arrested more than 3,500 undocumented immigrants in Minnesota since the start of Operation Metro Surge in December.
