Representative Angie Craig Issues Statement following White House Meeting with President Biden on the Build Back Better Act
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Angie Craig released the following statement following her meeting at the White House, where Craig took part in the ongoing negotiations surrounding the Build Back Better Act with President Joe Biden, Director of the Domestic Policy Council Susan Rice and Director of the National Economic Council Brian Deese – as well as other White House officials charged with enacting President Biden's economic agenda in Washington. Craig was invited to the White House alongside her fellow co-chairs of the Equality Caucus and leaders of the Congressional Tri-Caucus – composed of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), and Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC).
"This afternoon, I was pleased to have the opportunity to speak directly with President Biden and to share my thoughts on the Build Back Better negotiations. In our meeting, I communicated my desire to prioritize provisions that would lower out-of-pocket health care costs for middle-class families, provide a substantial investment in rural communities and create good-paying jobs for hardworking Minnesotans. I also reiterated my support for extending the child tax credit and the Rural Partnership Program, which would empower local communities to grow and support family farmers.
What I heard from the White House today was encouraging. Following our discussion, I am convinced that we are nearing a consensus on many outstanding provisions. And I'm more confident than ever that we'll be able to resolve our remaining differences and push this critical piece of legislation across the finish line. As we enter the final stages of these negotiations, I am focused on working with my colleagues to ensure that our final package delivers on our promises to the American people and provides long-overdue investments to working families in Minnesota and across the country."
