Rep. Angie Craig Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Streamline FDA Approval Time for Animal Feed

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Angie Craig joined her colleagues Representatives Greg Pence (R-IN), Jim Baird (R-IN) and Kim Schrier (D-WA) to introduce a bipartisan bill to streamline the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval process for animal feed.  

Right now, the average FDA approval time for a feed additive is 10-15 years. Rep. Craig’s bipartisan Innovative FEED Act would create a new category of animal feeds and clarify the FDA approval process for feed additives – helping to speed up the approval process.  

“The agricultural industry is constantly evolving and improving to meet current demands – and it’s critical that the regulatory processes surrounding the industry do the same. That’s why I worked with my colleague, Rep. Greg Pence of Indiana, to introduce the bipartisan Innovative FEED Act to make sure we can get products to Minnesota’s family farmers in a timely manner,” said Rep. Craig.  

The Innovative FEED Act is supported by the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, the National Milk Producers Federation, the American Feed Industry Association, the National Green and Feed Association, the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association, the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives and the Agricultural Retailers Association.
