Congresswoman Angie Craig Secures Additional Career and Technical Education Funding in House Bill

Craig Secures $25 million Increase in Support for Career and Technical Education Programs

U.S. Rep. Angie Craig has fought for small businesses and hard-working Minnesotans since her first day in Congress. Today she continued her push in securing $2 billion for Career, Technical and Adult Education, an increase of $25 million from last year.

Craig recently convened career and technical education (CTE) leaders to discuss how a focus on career and technical education will be neededas we rebuild our economy for those who are currently unemployed and may not have a job to return to.

"As the country endures the economic challenges of COVID-19, we must begin to think about how we put people back to work in the jobs that build our communities and critical American infrastructure,"said Rep. Angie Craig."We've got to make sure these opportunities are available to our students and supported as we are rebuilding. I'm glad that we took a step today toward supporting an economy that works for Minnesota's working and middle-class families."

Since being sworn in, Rep. Craig has:

  • Joined the bipartisan CTE Caucus
  • Introduced the21st Century Workforce Partnerships Actaimed to help Minnesotans secure careers in high-demand fields by fueling workforce training partnerships between schools and local businesses
  • Introduced theRemedial Education Improvement Act with Rep. Donald Norcross, a bill to make developmental education programs more effective and accessible, make post-secondary degrees more affordable and keep students on track to graduate on time
  • Cosponsored theBUILDS Act, a comprehensive and in-depth apprenticeship bill to improve student outcomes and prioritize industry partnerships to build the workforce we need in Minnesota
  • Cosponsored theJOBS Act, which would extend Pell Grant eligibility to include CTE and manufacturing degrees
  • Cosponsored theRelaunching America's Workforce Act, which would invest $15 billion in America's workforce training infrastructure, including career and technical education, in order to help workers quickly re-enter the workforce as the economy emerges from the deep decline due to the current COVID-19 pandemic
