Following Historic Fentanyl Bust, Rep. Angie Craig Honors Minnesota Law Enforcement on the House Floor
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig honored Minnesota law enforcement on the House Floor.
Rep. Craig praised members of the Washington County Drug Task Force – made up of law enforcement from Dakota, Washington and Ramsey Counties – for their execution of the largest seizure of illicit fentanyl in Minnesota history.
“In Minnesota, we know that fighting the fentanyl crisis will require all members of our community to do their part. From those dedicated members of Minnesota law enforcement, to the parents and advocates who’ve shared their stories with me, to the educators working to raise awareness about the dangers of illicit drugs – we all have a role to play in saving lives and addressing this crisis,” said Rep. Craig on the House Floor.
Rep. Craig is a leading voice in Congress in the fight to address the fentanyl crisis and increase support for local law enforcement.
In December, the House passed her bipartisan RECONNECTIONS Act with support from both Democrats and Republicans. Rep. Craig’s legislation will help expand federal overdose prevention efforts – like bolstering prescription drug monitoring programs, promoting and evaluating community and health system interventions and conducting research on controlled substance overdoses. The bill also categorizes the fentanyl crisis as a “new and emerging public health crisis.”
Last year, Rep. Craig successfully urged the Food and Drug Administration to fully approve over-the-counter distribution of Narcan, a medicine used to reverse overdoses. She has also used her role on the Energy and Commerce Committee to push for additional resources to help law enforcement address fentanyl-related challenges.
